Description

While the humanitarian situation in Zimbabwe has stabilized somewhat since last year, it remains fragile due to factors such as political instability, weak public infrastructure, and new cases of cholera that could reverse gains made recently and worsen humanitarian needs. CIDA's support helps UNICEF meet the emergency needs of vulnerable populations in Zimbabwe. Activities undertaken by UNICEF include: pre-positioning and distributing water and sanitation related non-food items (eg: soap, water purification tablets, water storage containers), and providing cholera awareness (eg: household water treatment, safe water storage, hand washing, food safety, and rehydration techniques), and coordinating water and sanitation programming in Zimbabwe.
