Description

(22 March 2011) Although, in 2011, the conflict in eastern Chad has subsided, the region is still home to almost 260,000 Sudanese refugees and nearly 190,000 internally displaced Chadians, as well as an estimated 400,000 members of host communities, who have been affected by the aftermath of the conflict, ongoing insecurity, and drought. With CIDA support, the World Food Programme (WFP) is helping to meet the basic needs of these populations through general food distribution, supplementary and therapeutic feeding programs to fight malnutrition, school feeding programmes to encourage children, particularly young girls, to attend classes, and food for work schemes to improve local infrastructure and provide livelihoods to local populations.
