Description

March 30, 2011 - Fragile political and security conditions in neighbouring countries have significantly impacted Cameroon with an influx of refugees from the Central African Republic and Chad. Presently, 84,600 refugees have settled with both host communities in the East and a refugee camp in the North region. According to a recent assessment, the food security situation for the both the refugee population and local communities has deteriorated over recent years due to the increased pressure on limited agricultural resources. This has had a negative impact on households’ food consumption and nutritional status. CIDA's contribution is helping the World Food Programme (WFP) to address the emergency food assistance needs of refugees and host communities. Activities include assisting refugee groups with general food distributions and nutritional support while simultaneously rebuilding the livelihoods of the refugee groups and host communities through food-for-work and food-for-training activities.
