Description

June 2011 - A worsening regional drought in the Horn of Africa has put increasing pressure on the small east African country of Djibouti. The lack of rain has negatively affected both local crop yields and the health of livestock, resulting in heightened food insecurity for pastoralist communities and refugee populations in this already highly vulnerable country. With support from CIDA and other international donors, the World Food Programme (WFP) aims to feed an estimated 100,000 people over the course of 2011. WFP activities include both general food distributions and targeted support aimed at particularly vulnerable members of society (such as pregnant and lactating women and children under five years old).
