Description

With CIDA support, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), in partnership with national and international actors, oversees the coordination of humanitarian action in order to promote more effective and principled humanitarian response. Project activities focus on establishing and overseeing coordination systems (including supporting humanitarian leadership and the cluster system), monitoring and reporting on humanitarian situations, advocating for humanitarian access to affected populations, supporting the assessment and prioritization of needs and contingency planning, and ensuring an effective transition with development partners.

Expected results

Expected outputs include: An effective humanitarian coordination system established in-country; a common response to humanitarian needs; a well-resourced and monitored common response plan; improved access to services and assistance for all vulnerable people; strategic communications with the international community on humanitarian crises; governments and Humanitarian Country Teams are better prepared to coordinate and respond to future emergencies; and, recurrent humanitarian concerns addressed through longer-term strategies. The expected intermediate outcome is improved effectiveness of humanitarian action by the international humanitarian system.
