Description 

March, 2013 - The United Nations Department of Safety and Security is responsible for providing leadership, operational support and oversight of the United Nations security management system, ensuring the maximum security for staff as well as enabling the safest and most efficient conduct of the programmes and activities of the United Nations System. With CIDA support, the United Nations Department of Safety Security's 2013 emergency operations in Syria is providing safety and security for all United Nations staff to enable safe and effective programme delivery of humanitarian assistance. Project activities include: deployment of additional international security officers to Syria; coordination and liaison with the authorities on staff and security issues; and, procurement of armoured vehicles.

Expected results 

The expected outputs for this project include: protection and basic assistance is provided to vulnerable displaced people/refugees; security of humanitarian workers is enhanced and humanitarian activities are conducted in safety. The expected intermediate outcome is reduced vulnerability of crisis-affected people, especially women and children.
