Description

This project aims to increase civil registration rates. This increase in the budget for the project accelerates birth and death registration, expands the reach of registration services to health centres, and ensures the development of a more accessible and gender-responsive system. Project activities include: (1) establishing a legislative and regulatory framework to support the new civil registration system with clearly defined roles and responsibilities of each government institution; (2) providing training to key actors on the new civil registration system, including on gender-sensitive procedures; and (3) equipping and preparing health units (28 hospitals, 287 health centres and 11 provincial health departments) to provide registration services.

Expected results

The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) the creation of an enabling environment for gender-responsive civil registration; and (2) the rollout of a gender-responsive, simplified and decentralized civil registration system.
