Description

This project supports activities from the previously funded project, “Durable Integration of Agropastoral Graduates” (IDDA), to respond to the effects of the coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis in Benin, Haiti, and Mali. These activities aim to ensure the continuity of educational programs and to better equip the communities in mitigating the impacts of the crisis, particularly for women and girls. Project activities include: (1) strengthening the communities’ awareness on hygiene and safe practices through awareness-raising operations; (2) adapting the education programs offered by Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions to make them available remotely, and to ensure continuity of education in times of crisis; (3) promoting the safe re-opening of TVET establishments targeted by the IDDA project, with an emphasis on reintegrating adolescent girls and young women affected by the crisis; and (4) supporting young people vulnerable to the economic impacts of the crisis, especially young women, by promoting self-employment in the agricultural/agri-food sector.

Expected results

The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) increased awareness of hygiene and safe practices; (2) continuity of learning through increased accessibility to remote learning materials; (3) safe resumption of the training offered within the target establishments emphasizing the reintegration of adolescent girls and mitigating the gender-specific obstacles exacerbated by the COVID-19 crisis; and (4) support for agricultural entrepreneurship, as young beneficiaries will be reoriented towards self-employment and supported to start agricultural/agrifood businesses, particularly prioritizing young women graduates.
