Description 

This project is part of Canada’s commitment to the Middle East Strategy. The Middle East Field Support Services Project (ME-FSSP) provides essential support in the planning, delivering and monitoring of Canada’s expanded international development and humanitarian assistance in Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria. Project activities include (1) analyzing development issues, strategies and needs; (2) providing technical support, including gender expertise; and (3) providing project monitoring and logistical services.

Expected results 

The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) improved effectiveness and relevance of Global Affairs initiatives to local development challenges, plans and priorities, particularly the challenges faced by women and (2) improved efficiency of program and project design and oversight by Global Affairs staff, advisors, partners and local stakeholders.

Results achieved 

Results achieved as of March 2025 include: (1) supported community-led Local Development Initiatives in Jordan, Iraq, and Lebanon to advance eco-education, gender-responsive climate action, youth advocacy, livelihoods, education, health, and inclusion; (2) promoted climate resilience and women’s empowerment in Iraq through ongoing and new initiatives, technical assistance, and knowledge exchange; (3) strengthened youth engagement, environmental sustainability, and community participation in Lebanon with targeted capacity support; (4) recruited technical advisors in Jordan, Iraq, and Lebanon to improve program planning and delivery; (5) delivered training on GAC’s Gender Equality and Empowerment Measurement Tool in Lebanon and on gender-responsive practices for educators in Jordan; and (6) held a Partners’ Forum in Erbil, Iraq in October 2024 to bring together Canada’s development partners in Iraq.
