Description

The activities to prevent the spread of COVID-19 includes providing personal protective equipment to the personnel of municipal administrations in order to ensure the provision of municipal services; providing support in the form of awareness-raising materials; informing the population about the presence and spread of Covid19 , preventive measures and behaviours to be followed in order to prevent community contamination. The project aims to build the capacity of Haiti’s local populations to participate in the development of their community so that all women and men in urban or rural communities benefit from decent public services and diversified economic opportunities. Project activities include: (1) supporting and assisting three ministries and organizations involved in the decentralization (Ministry of Planning and External Cooperation, Ministry of the Interior and Territorial Communities, and the Office of Human Resource Management); (2) building capacity for steering the decentralization; (3) training and mentoring women mayors; (4) supporting local communities targeted for revenue generation and management; and (5) organizing consultation workshops and awareness campaigns to better integrate the needs and concerns of women into local development.

Expected results

The expected results for this project include: (1) decentralization and deconcentration efforts are conducted in a strategic, coordinated and inclusive manner, ensuring integration of the distinct perspectives and priorities of women; (2) territorial institutions are modernized and strengthened in order to leverage a more accountable and inclusive local governance that adequately responds to people’s needs; and (3) development of territories is driven and rebalanced by the use of tools and approaches that take into account local circumstances and women’s specific needs.
