Description

The project provides the Canadian Commercial Corporation with funding to negotiate and implement a contract with Scienta Sensor Systems to supply, install and commission a radionuclide detection system at the National Nuclear Centre in Kurchatov, Kazakstan. It also seeks to provide operator training, preventative maintenance and technical support. The provided equipment will be used to establish a prototype cooperating national facility to monitor compliance with the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty.

Expected results

The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) increased ability to produce additional data to strengthen the ability to monitor compliance with the Treaty; and (2) increased ability to produce refined information on local or regional background levels of radionuclides.

Results achieved

Results achieved as of June 2023 include: (1) constructed and factory tested the equipment in December 2018; and (2) successfully delivered the equipment from Uppsala, Sweden, to Kurchatov, Kazakhstan, in December 2020.
