This project aims to increase the capacity of local police and civil society to work together to address security issues in Ninewah and Anbar, Iraq through the use of community policing practices. Police forces are currently supporting other Iraqi Security Forces in their fight against Daesh; however as the latter loses ground there is a need for local police forces to provide security as a service to the populace in areas liberated from Daesh. Project activities include: (1) training local police and civil society on community policing; (2) establishing community police forums; (3) rehabilitating police stations; and (4) assessing the security needs of local women and youth in targeted areas.

The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) strengthened capacity of law enforcement to engage with the community to identify and resolve security issues through the community policing approach; and (2) strengthened capacity of the community to engage with security actors to effectively address security issues, including civil society, women, and youth.

Results achieved as of May 2022 include: (1) supported 14 cascading trainings on community policing and engaged 242 law enforcement actors; and (2) delivered 11 trainings specifically designed to engage women and youth in the peace and security dialogue at the community level.
