Description

This project aims to support the expansion of Sentry, a life-saving application that helps protect Syrian civilians by warning them about imminent airstrikes. This is a second phase to the project. Project activities include: (1) analysing data from various sources; (2) developing alert messages; and (3) disseminating messages using social media and other peer-to-peer messaging platforms.

Expected results

The expected outcome of this project is the reduction of civilian deaths, injuries and trauma due to aerial strikes.

Results achieved

Results achieved as of the end of the project (June 2019) include: (1) 2,100,000 people used the Sentry Early Warning System; (2) 93.5% of the assessed population where the Sentry system was operational, were aware of the system; and (3) an estimated 400 people have escaped injury or death as a direct result of access to early warnings generated by the Sentry Early Warning System.
