Description

The "Partnerships for Municipal Innovation - Women in Local Leadership" project aims to reduce barriers to women's participation in public life and promote their access to municipal services in Ghana, Benin, Zambia, Sri Lanka, and Cambodia. The project furthers women's empowerment at the local level through an integrated two-pronged approach: (1) supporting improved, inclusive, and gender-responsive service delivery; and (2) strengthening the long-term enabling environment for these services by promoting increased representation of women and marginalized groups in local government, reducing barriers to their participation, and promoting policies and mechanisms that facilitate their inclusion.

Expected results

The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) Increased effectiveness of local governments in targeted countries in delivering inclusive, gender-responsive public services; and (2) Increased participation by women in targeted countries, particularly those from marginalized groups, as leaders and decision-makers in local governance.
