Description

This project aims to address gender expertise capacity gaps within the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA). Women are essential actors that must be included in decision-making structures to enable a durable and lasting peace. Gender expertise in the mission is critical for the delivery of core Women, Peace and Security (WPS) priorities. In a bid to enhance women’s meaningful participation, the project supports two gender advisors, located in regional offices. These gender advisors lead the mobilization and capacity building of local women’s organizations to contribute to effective representation and participation in local peace and reconciliation efforts.

Expected results

The expected outcome for this project includes: improved implementation of the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) priorities/mandate across all MINUSCA functions and components in the Central African Republic.

Results achieved

Results achieved as of March 2021 include: (1) improved implementation of the Women, Peace and Security mandate of the UN Mission in the Central African Republic (CAR) and strengthened gender mainstreaming in peace negotiations; and (2) the work of the Gender Advisors and the Gender unit led to gender sensitivity by the missions as 54% of its actions enhanced peace and social cohesion initiatives. Additionally, 32% of peace actors that have benefited from the mission’s initiatives at the local level for peace are women.
