Description

This project aims to enhance women’s equitable rights to and control over land, housing and livelihoods in urban environments in Angola, Kenya, South Africa and Uganda. Land and housing issues lie at the heart of poverty, exclusion and insecurity faced by women and girls living in urban and peri-urban informal settlements in Sub-Saharan Africa. Project activities include training, technical assistance and advocacy support to civil society organizations and local authorities. With GAC’s support, Rooftops Canada - Abri International seeks to strengthen local gender-responsive policies, laws, practices and programs to provide households with more secure land and housing tenure, and land and resources for urban agriculture that can help improve food security.

Expected results

The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) strengthened local and national gender-responsive policies, laws and programs that equitably address the land, housing and livelihoods needs of women and men; (2) strengthened local practices that address equitable access to land, housing and livelihoods by women and men, especially women; and (3) enhanced support for and influence on gender-responsive land, housing and livelihoods policies and practices from local, national, regional and global organizations and networks.
