Description

The Global Program for the Blue Economy (PROBLUE) aims to help developing countries build their coastal economies sustainably while ensuring the protection and sustainable use of marine and coastal resources. This project is a World Bank-managed, multi-donor trust fund that aims to achieve integrated and sustainable economic development in healthy and productive oceans. The blue economy refers to the sustainable use of ocean resources for economic growth, improved livelihoods and jobs, and ocean ecosystem health. Project activities include: (1) managing fisheries and aquaculture; (2) tackling marine pollution, including plastics; (3) developing sustainable key oceanic sectors such as tourism, maritime transport, and offshore renewable energy; and (4) building the capacity of local governments to manage their marine and coastal resources in an integrated fashion to deliver more long-lasting benefits to countries and communities.
