Description

This grant represents Canada’s long-term institutional support to Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. Gavi uses these funds, along with other donors’ funding, to achieve its mandate. Gavi’s long-term mission is saving lives and protecting people’s health by increasing equitable and sustainable vaccine use. This project supports Gavi's four strategic goals for the current period (2021 to 2025). Project activities include: introducing and scaling up vaccines against infectious disease, including human papillomavirus and malaria, through procurement and delivery support; (2) strengthening health systems to increase immunization equity, including dedicated support to extend immunization services to under-immunized and zero-dose children; (3) improving the sustainability of national immunizations programs; and (4) ensuring healthy markets for vaccines and related products.

Expected results

The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) 300 million additional children immunized; (2) 82 new vaccine programs introduced; (3) 7 to 8 million additional lives saved; and (4) US$ 80 to 100 billion in economic benefits produced.

Results achieved

Results achieved as of December 2023 include: (1) the project vaccinated 205 million children; (2) introduced 42 new vaccine programs; (3) saved 3.7 million additional lives; and (4) produced US$52 billion in economic benefits.
