Description

This project supports 642 volunteer placements, and aims to improve the economic and/or social well-being of the poorest, most marginalized and vulnerable people, especially women and girls, with a view to contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals in the target countries. The project focuses on gender equality, empowering women, and creating a safe environment for a life free of violence for women and girls. In addition to increasing the participation of Canadians in international development and key global issues in support of gender equality, the empowerment of women and girls, and inclusive governance, this project aims to strengthen the performance of 72 women's rights organizations and civil society organizations working for gender equality and the rights of marginalized groups so that they can better contribute to the evolution of norms and policies that discriminate against women and girls. The project also aims to empower women, young women and girls by encouraging them to participate in decision-making processes and the exercise of their rights. Project activities include: (1) recruiting and training volunteers in gender equality, ethics, participatory approaches, innovation, inclusion, and resilience approaches to support partners; (2) implementing global funds to support partner initiatives advancing gender equality; (3) implementing peer learning initiatives addressing women's leadership and approaches to inclusion, innovation, and resilience; (4) creating spaces for dialogue by young leaders to share their thoughts and influence decision-makers on gender equality and youth engagement; and (5) organizing public events on global and gender inequalities to reach and engage diverse Canadian audiences.

Expected results

The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) increased performance of partners in implementing more inclusive, innovative and environmentally sustainable initiatives that advance gender equality and inclusive governance; and (2) increased participation of Canadians in international development and key global issues. .
