Description

The Technical Assistance Partnership - Expert Deployment Mechanism (TAP-EDM) project aims to improve the well-being of the poorest, most marginalized and vulnerable people, by contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals. The project executes FIAP-aligned expert deployments in countries eligible to Official Development Assistance (ODA), including countries in fragile and conflict-affected situations. The project also works to draw experts from all spheres of Canadian society, such as academia, private sector, civil society, and public sector, with the exception of the Government of Canada. Project activities include: (1) providing in person and/or on location and other combinations of distance education/e-learning strategies, such as training, seminars, and workshops, to deliver professional accompaniment/mentoring, advisory support, policy research, institutional audit, and capacity development plans; (2) organizing technical visits and/or study tours to Canada; and (3) organizing communications and public engagement activities aimed at Canadians from various regions, and diverse identities. The project expects to support approximately 30 to 35 technical assistance (TA) initiatives per year for a total of 120 to140 TA initiatives.

Expected results

The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) enhanced effective, inclusive, accountable, sustainable, resilient and gender responsive national government entities in ODA-eligible countries; and (2) enhanced participation in and support from Canadians toward Canada’s international assistance efforts.

Results achieved

Results achieved as of March 2024 include: (1) completed 30 technical assistance initiatives in 25 countries around the world out of 57 in 36 developing countries. This includes 15 in Latin America and the Caribbean, 6 in Middle-East and Northern Africa, 5 in Sub-Saharan Africa, and 4 in the Indo-Pacific; (2) supported 2438 officials (951 women, 1000 men and 487 other) in 73 different national-level government entities and secondary stakeholders to develop, implement, monitor, evaluate and communicate national laws, policies, plans, programs and services in a more effective, inclusive, accountable, sustainable, resilient and gender responsive manner; (3) engaged 98 Canadian experts (52 women, 44 men and 2 other) from different areas of the private sector to provide technical assistance and share their experience with Canadians; and (4) reached over 57,000 people in Canada across 35 public engagement activities (e.g., in-person and virtual events, etc.) and 565 content pieces (e.g. TAP-EDM blog entries, articles, etc.).
