Description

This project funds the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to deliver diagnostic kits, equipment, and training in nuclear-derived detection techniques. This is to support countries asking for assistance to tackle the worldwide spread of the novel coronavirus causing COVID-19.

Expected results

The expected outcome for this project includes 27 emergency assistance packages procured and delivered to 21 countries. These packages include real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction diagnostic machines, reagents, and laboratory materials for testing.

Results achieved

Results achieved as of the end of the project (September 2021) include: (1) delivered 27 emergency assistance packages to 23 national laboratories and institutions in 21 countries; (2) delivered nine reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction diagnostic machines to three additional countries; and (3) delivered 30,000 testing kits to Cuba to increase their national diagnostic capacities.
