Description

This project aims to enhance the engagement of Canadians, especially youth (12-18 years old), in Canada’s international development efforts towards the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Canada’s Feminist International Assistance Policy (FIAP), with a focus on gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls. Project activities include: (1) creating memorable experiences that include workplace learning opportunities and public multimedia installations; (2) designing and delivering learning products, including curriculum resources and maps. (3) co-developing innovative mass media campaigns and media products; (4) enhancing the creation of communities of practice to have meaningful and regular exchanges; and (5) producing a mainstream documentary series about international development. The International Development Education and Awareness (IDEA) project aims to reach 1.3 million beneficiaries, including youth (girls, boys and gender minorities) and hard-to-reach, Indigenous and diaspora populations.

Expected results

The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) increased understanding by youth in Canada of international development issues and Canada’s efforts towards the achievement of the SDGs and FIAP; and (2) improved use of equitably distributed and accessible, evidence-based, gender-sensitive, international development learning products, including the SDGs and FIAP, by youth in Canada
