Project profile — The World Food Programme - Lebanon explosion response 2020

August 2020 – The United Nations launched a flash appeal to respond to the needs of 300,000 people in Lebanon affected by the explosions in Beirut on August 4th, 2020. The flash appeal outlines a coordinated humanitarian response to the most immediate and lifesaving needs, and in certain cases time-critical early recovery needs, arising from the explosions. The appeal seeks to save lives by providing essential health care, food, water, hygiene, shelter and protection to people affected by the explosions. With GAC’s support, the World Food Programme (WFP) is providing food, nutrition and cash-based assistance in support of the 2020 UN flash appeal for Lebanon. Project activities include: (1) distributing food and cash-based assistance; and (2) supplementary feeding for children under five years of age as well as pregnant and lactating women.

The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) increased access to food and cash-based assistance for crisis-affected populations; and (2) increased access to supplementary feeding for vulnerable groups, including children, and pregnant and lactating women. The expected ultimate outcome is lives saved, suffering alleviated and human dignity maintained in countries experiencing humanitarian crises.
