Description 

This project aims to prevent the spread of COVID-19, rapidly detect COVID-19 cases, and effectively respond to the pandemic to reduce morbidity in the country and help the country respond to the socio-economic disruption caused by the pandemic. This project supports the Government of Malawi’s National Covid-19 Preparedness and Response Plan through the Humanitarian Window of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Malawi’s Sustainable Development Goals Accelerated Fund.

Expected results 

The expected results of this project include: (1) the prevention of further spread of COVID-19, rapid detection of COVID-19 and effective response to the pandemic in Malawi; and (2) help Malawi respond to the socio-economic disruption caused by the pandemic.

Results achieved 

Results achieved as of March 2025 include: (1) the participation of 4,335 out-of-school girls in education, practical skills, and livelihood programmes; (2) 3,798 participants achieved at least 80% of the learning objectives in literacy, numeracy, and practical skills courses; (3) a 94% success rate among participants in national examinations; (4) technical and vocational training provided to 1,724 out-of-school girls and young women, who also benefit from mentorship for economic empowerment; (5) the launch and development of economic enterprises by 1,544 girls and young women; and (6) 1,028 participants reported improved economic situations through income-generating activities.
