Description

This project supports the Jumpstart project to provide sustainable and inclusive growth among Jordan’s small and medium enterprises (SMEs). This project supports capacity-building among Jordanian SMEs and serves as a catalyst for investment capital to close the funding gap facing SMEs. It aims to improve access to quality jobs through increased job creation and the economic empowerment of women and youth, thus contributing to the Growth that Works for Everyone Action Area of the Feminist International Assistance Policy.

Expected results

The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) improved access to quality jobs and enhanced job security for women and working-age youth by improving SMEs performance and opportunities in Jordan; (2) improved practices in gender equality and inclusion in the workplace in portfolio companies; and (3) providing more employment opportunities for women, working-age youth and people with disabilities in SMEs in Jordan.

Results achieved

Results achieved as of March 2024 include:(1) developed and implemented targeted group training sessions for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), incorporating modules on gender equality, inclusivity, and investment readiness; (2) facilitated the design, mentor recruitment, and preparation for a program aimed at enhancing Jordanian SMEs fundamental and specialized business skills; (3) reached 264 businesses through proactive screening processes and partnerships with the Businesswomen in Jordan Association. This collaboration resulted in 50% participation from women-owned businesses in seminars and focused training sessions. Customized training modules on gender inclusion, along with the introduction of the Small Enterprise Assistance Funds Gender Scorecard. Also raised awareness, showing a 60% increase in awareness post-training; (4) integrated sessions on local regulations and government policies related to employing individuals with disabilities, leading to 45 SMEs employing people with disabilities; and (5) developed a market report for potential investors.
