Description 

This project aims to enhance the inclusivity and responsiveness of the Jordanian security sector to increase the safety and security of men and women in Jordan. It provides training and mentoring to Jordan’s Public Security Directorate (PSD). This project directly supports the PSD’s Gender Mainstreaming Strategy by strengthening and institutionalizing gender mainstreaming as a key component of the security sector. Project activities include: (1) providing a 8-week training program to Tactical Medic train the trainers’ personnel to prepare them to conduct Tactical Medic courses; (2) delivering 8-week training program courses to women train the trainers to prepare them to deliver firearm and search courses; (3) providing training to women train the trainers in negotiation, mediation, and dialogue facilitation; and (4) delivering sessions to senior officers to ensure their understanding of integrating women in counter-terrorism operations.

Expected results 

The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) encouraged meaningful participation and leadership of women officers, in line with national-level strategies and initiatives by the PSD; and (2) applied inclusive and gender-responsive approaches to operational unit deployments regarding women suspects, victims and civilians in counter-terrorism operations by the PSD.

Results achieved 

Results achieved as of June 2022 include: (1) trained 385 Jordanian police officers to strengthen the representation of women in operational units to deal with women suspects, victims, and civilians in counterterrorism operations. 48.9% of the participating women police officers received training on tactical components; (2) 17 students (8 men and 9 women) attended a 8-week tactical medic train the trainer program; and (3) delivered the gender focal point train the trainer to 41 Public Security Directorate officers attending training skills and gender response courses. This is aimed at assisting them in providing gender mainstreaming to the broader Public Security Directorate.
