Description 

This project seeks to improve the understanding and implementation of Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) of adolescent girls and young women (AGYW), particularly among Venezuelan migrants and refugees. The project aims to increase the protection of sexual and reproductive health and rights of adolescent girls and young women (AGYW), in all their diversity, in Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. Project activities include: (1) training on prevention of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) for adolescent girls and boys, SRHR, gender-transformative life skills and transformative masculinities; (2) training frontline protection and health service providers in gender-and adolescent-responsive and inclusive protection and SRHR service provision; (3) providing equipment and supplies for SRHR service providers, including menstrual health needs; (4) implementing a communications strategy to challenge negative gender norms, promote AGYW`s rights, the role of men and boys as allies, and the prevention of xenophobia; and (5) strengthening the capacity of local organizations, particularly women’s rights organizations, youth-led organizations and migrants rights organizations through virtual learning and multi-country exchange sessions for project staff and key actors. The project aims to reach 122, 619 beneficiaries (65% women) aged 10 to 29. It directly benefits frontline protection and healthcare staff, community leaders, parents, caregivers, and partners. It also supports women’s rights organizations, youth-led organizations, migrant and refugee organizations and healthcare and protection facilities in Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru.

Expected results 

The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) increased individual and collective agency of adolescent girls and young women, particularly among Venezuelan migrants and refugees, in all their diversity, to exercise their sexual and reproductive health rights; (2) improved delivery of gender and adolescent-responsive and inclusive sexual and reproductive health services for adolescent girls and young women, particularly for Venezuelan migrants and refugees, in all their diversity; and (3) strengthened coordination of evidence-based, gender-transformative sexual and reproductive health services for adolescent girls and young women, especially Venezuelan migrants and refugees, by local organizations and local authorities.

Results achieved 

Results achieved as of March 2024 include: (1) allowed 817 adolescents and youth (65% adolescent girls and young women (AGYW)), with 53% of them Venezuelan migrants and refugees to graduated from the My Path to Transformation training on sexual and gender-based violence prevention; (2) established 11 orientation points and provided 17,154 adolescents and youth information, orientation, and referrals on sexual and reproductive health and rights, sexual and gender-based violence prevention, protection pathways, and available Gender and Adolescent Responsive and Inclusive services; (3) reached 1,098 AGYW and provided in-depth direct psychosocial support and case management in Colombia and Ecuador; (4) distributed cash and voucher assistance to 1,594 adult women and AGYW, 97% migrants and refugees; (5) distributed 6,576 menstrual care or hygiene kits to adolescents and youth, consisting of 57% migrants and refugees; (6) successfully reached 740 adults, consisting of 57% migrants and refugees, and 8,859 people through radio commercials on positive parenting in Ecuadorthrough positive parenting and healthy sexuality and relationships workshops for parents and caregivers; (7) trained 525 health and 259 protection service providers in Colombia and Peru on the delivery of Gender and Adolescent Responsive and Inclusive services; and (8) continued providing equipment and supplies to 31 prioritized health facilities and 26 protection service units in the 3 implementation countries. This resulted in improved health and protection services provided to 181,212 adolescents and youth (74% AGYW).
