Description

The project seeks to improve the lives and livelihoods of women and girls in sub-Saharan Africa. Project activities include: (1) scaling tested policy and program innovations that recognize, reduce and redistribute women’s unpaid care work by providing sub-grants to local stakeholders, including women's rights or advocacy organizations; (2) establishing an African care work community of practice, with the proactive engagement of women’s rights organizations to facilitate knowledge exchange, peer learning and coalition building; and (3) building stakeholders' capacity through training seminars and workshops to carry out gender analysis and generate and use care data and evidence to drive actions. Women and girls - particularly those living in poverty and belonging to marginalized groups - will benefit from this project.

Expected results

The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) greater participation of women and girls in economic, educational, political and leisure activities of their choice; (2) improved gender responsive planning and budget allocations by national or sub-national governments that consider the unequal distribution of unpaid care work responsibilities shouldered by women and girls; and (3) strengthened participation of women’s rights and advocacy organizations in care policy dialogues, consultations, and decision-making.
