This project aims to increase the freedom and security of human rights defenders in Iraq, Lebanon and Syria. Project activities include: (1) providing protection grants for human rights defenders at risk; (2) providing training and support to help protect the security of human rights defenders, particularly on cyber issues and personal security; (3) mapping the civic space and activities of human rights defenders to improve the networks between them; and (4) sharing information on urgent protection cases and broader trends with international actors to lobby for protection of human rights defenders.

Expected results

The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) human rights defenders have strengthened resilience and ability to manage their security, supported by a gender-sensitive approach; and (2) the political and security space in which human rights defenders operate is defended and potentially expanded.
