Description 

This project aims to increase the freedom and security of human rights defenders in Iraq, Lebanon, Syria and Ukraine. Project activities include: (1) providing protection grants for human rights defenders at risk; (2) providing training and support to help protect the security of human rights defenders, particularly on cyber issues and personal security; (3) mapping human rights defender’s civic space and activities to improve their networks ; (4) sharing information on urgent protection cases and broader trends with international actors to lobby for the protection of human rights defenders; and (5) providing institutional support grants to civil society organizations at risk.

Expected results 

The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) strengthened human rights defenders’ resilience and ability to manage their security, supported by a gender-sensitive approach; and (2) defended and expanded the political and security space in which human rights operate.
