Description

The purpose of this project is to support Haitian National Police Academy (NPA) and the Haitian National Police (HNP) in protecting the Haitian population to improve public security in Haiti. The initiative contributes to the effort to reduce crime through an increased police presence. Project activities include: (1) developing a training module on crisis management for senior members of the HNP and members of the high command; (2) creating a plan to secure NPA facilities; (3) upgrading existing infrastructures while considering female police officers’ gender-specific needs; (4) implementing remote training programs for HNP inspectors and commissionaires in the regions; and (5) establishing a management skills development program for female police officers.

Expected results

The expected results of this project include: (1) increased effectiveness of the NPA and of senior members of the HNP in responding to the current crisis and those in the future; (2) improved capacity of the NPA to professionalize HNP officers, higher-ranking officers and members of the high command across the country to respond to the crisis; and (3) enhanced NPA practices to institutionalize gender at all levels of response.
