Project profile — Support for the establishment of a Conflict sensitivity hub in the Democratic Republic of Congo

This project aims to ensure the continuity and scale-up of a Conflict Sensitivity Center, which will act as a center of expertise for the humanitarian, development, and peacebuilding community in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). It seeks particularly for actors working in the eastern part of the country, in Ituri, Kasai, North and South Kivu, and Tanganyika, where there are numerous and diverse conflicts. The DRC Conflict sensitivity hub will be a center for quality conflict analysis, providing targeted research and concise syntheses with recommendations for follow-up. The hub would also provide conflict and gender sensitivity support through capacity building and creating a meeting venue to exchange on conflict and gender sensitivity. More specifically, the center aims to develop 4 services. Project activities include: (1) conducting research and analysis to help better understand the contexts in which humanitarian, development and peace actors operate; (2) building capacity for humanitarian, development, and peace actors; (3) providing support and technical assistance in mainstreaming gender and conflict sensitivity; and (4) supporting research on the impact of mainstreaming conflict sensitivity.

The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) provided access to conflict-sensitive and gender-sensitive resources, capacity building, technical assistance, humanitarian learning, development, and peacebuilding actors; and (2) increased credibility, capacity, and sustainability of the Conflict Sensitivity Center in the DRC. Ultimately, the Center aims to help support more than 150 organizations working in the DRC in Ituri, Kasai, North and South Kivu, and Tanganyika.

Results achieved as of March 2025 include: (1) trained 409 people from organizations in the humanitarian, development and peace sectors, in conflict and gender sensitivity; (2) trained 157 individuals from organizations in the humanitarian, development and peace sectors, to integrate the principles of conflict and gender sensitivity into their organization’s activities; and (3) trained 44 civil society organizations for women and youth to strengthen the integration of conflict and gender sensitivity.
