Description

This project aims to improve the protection of forcibly displaced LGBTQI+ people around the world. Project activities include: (1) conducting a meta-analysis on the state of research on LGBTQI+ persons in forced displacement globally, with a particular focus on the situation of transgender and non-binary persons, lesbian and bisexual women, and intersex persons; (2) convening roundtables on refugee protection issues with civil society organizations, forcibly displaced people, and goverment representatives in 5 transit countries for forcibly displaced people; (3) convening a 3-day conference on policy issues related to forced displacement in a Global South transit country. Direct beneficiaries of this project include 211 individuals from approximately 11 countries: 95 civil society representatives, 75 forcibly displaced people, and 41 academics who will participate in stakeholder roundtables, the academic symposium, and the multi-stakeholder conference proposed in this project. Indirectly, this project will impact at least 210,000 LGBTQI+ forcibly displaced persons who are served by the network of civil society organizations benefitting from this initiative.

Expected results

The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) increased use of robust evidence-based research about LGBTQI+ people in forced displacement; (2) strengthened multi-stakeholder collaboration between CSOs, state actors, and LGBTQI+ people in forced displacement; and (3) strengthened policy processes to enhance the protection of LGBTQI+ people in forced displacement.
