Description

This project aims to reduce poverty and vulnerability among the rural poor and help stabilize household health and nutrition during economic shocks. This includes enhancing livelihoods during stability and enabling people to overcome their vulnerability to food insecurity. The project supports the Government of Ethiopia's efforts to improve the income of 2.5 million climate-vulnerable rural households and strengthen the rural safety net mechanism. This project aims to benefit 489 rural woredas (wards) and targets 8 million chronically food insecure people (51% women and girls).

Expected results

The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) expanded and improved delivery of an equitable, productive safety net program to deliver cash-for-work and direct access to food for poor rural women, men and vulnerable children to improve health outcomes; (2) improved and equitable shock responsiveness of the rural safety net program to improve health outcomes; (3) improved systems, capacity development and program management support for kebele and woreda (ward and district-level government) implementers; and (4) increased women’s voice, agency and economic empowerment, employment, and independence.
