Description

The project aims to improve the sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) of women and adolescent girls in the provinces of Kinshasa, Kasai and Kasai Central of the Democratic Republic of Congo by addressing deep gender inequalities that limit their access to SRHR services. The initiative aims to strengthen the decision-making power of women and adolescent girls over their bodily autonomy and aims to improve the provision of SRHR services and strengthen the governance of the health system. The project aims to ensure the perspectives of women and adolescent girls, particularly the most vulnerable among them, are taken into consideration within health service provision and the governance of the health system. The project will bolster the ability of communities and the health system to combat existing harmful norms that reinforce gender inequalities in collaboration with women’s rights organizations. This initiative aims to advocate for SRHR improvements and reforms, including to increase the use of family planning and abortion and post-abortion services and care.

Expected results

The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) Strengthened agency and decision-making power of women and adolescent girls, especially those in vulnerable situations, regarding their sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR); (2) improved provision of health services that respect the rights of women and adolescent girls; and (3) improved governance of the health system, including SRHR services, that actively includes women, adolescent girls, including those in vulnerable situations, and women's rights organizations. The project expects to improve the SRHR of 848,375 women (aged between 15 and 49) and 440,196 adolescent girls (aged between 10 and 19).
