Description 

This project intends to provide health services to poor and vulnerable women and men, including refugees and displaced persons residing in Egypt, in the Governorates of Gharbia, Monofiya, North Sinai, Aswan and Giza. This project aims to procure, deliver and install three CT scanners to three public hospitals in Egypt serving the lower to lower-middle income population, which include (1) Kafr El Zayat General Hospital (Gharbia Governorate); (2) Monofia General Hospital (Monofiya Governorate); and( 3) Imbaba General Hospital (Giza Governorate). Also, the project seeks to procure, deliver and install 5 X-ray machines in 5 public hospitals in Egypt, which include: (1) Alsadaka general hospital (Aswan Governorate); (2) Edfo general hospital (Aswan Governorate); (3) Al-Areesh general hospital (North Sinai Governorate); (4) Beer Al-Abd district hospital (North Sinai Governorate); and (5) Al-Sheikh Zowayed district hospital (North Sinai Governorate). The X-rays will increase the Egyptian healthcare system’s capacity to provide health and diagnostic services to marginalized populations, particularly those suffering from COVID-19, women, refugees and displaced persons, residing in regions impacted by the pandemic and the conflicts in Sudan and Gaza.

Expected results 

The expected results of this project include: 1) building resilience to health-related crises and shocks in order to safeguard development gains in Egypt during the COVID-19 pandemic; and 2) increase screening services in public hospitals serving the poorest and most affected population of Gharbia, Monofiya, North Sinai, Aswan and Giza.

Results achieved 

Results achieved as of July 2024 include: (1) delivered and installed 3 (CT) scanners in public hospitals. These include Embaba General Hospital in Giza, Monouf General hospital in Monofia and Kafr Zayat General Hospital in Gharbia; (2) trained hospital staff on operating and maintaining the CT scanners; and (3) delivered and installed 5 mobile X-ray machines to public hospitals providing health and diagnostic services to vulnerable Egyptians and refugees. These include El Helal Hospital,? El Kananter El Khayria and Ahmed Maher teaching Hospital in Cairo, ?El Arish Hospital in North Sinai and ?Kafr El Shiekh Hospital in Delta.
