Description

The Technical Assistance Partnership – Government of Canada project supports Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) in deploying departmental scientists, engineers and technical experts specializing in natural resource management and environmental sustainability to countries eligible for official development assistance (ODA). The project also aims to improve the well-being of the poorest, most marginalized and vulnerable populations by aligning with Canada’s Feminist International Assistance Policy (FIAP) while contributing to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Project activities include: (1) building the capacity of national government entities responsible for natural resources; (2) raising Canadians’ awareness of international development issues, including Canada’s SDGs and FIAP, through public engagement activities; and (3) organizing technical visits to Canada. The project seeks to support around 20 technical assistance initiatives.

Expected results

The expected results of the project include: (1) support for the development of effective, inclusive, accountable, sustainable, resilient and gender-sensitive national entities in ODA recipient countries and (2) increased participation and support by Canadians for Canada’s international assistance efforts.

Results achieved

Results achieved as of March 2025 include: (1) implemented 2 technical assistance initiative in Jamaica and Dominica; (2) supported 15 staff/personnel (6 women and 9 men) in 2 National Level Entities, contributing to enhance their capacity to design and implement disaster risk reduction and recovery tools; and (3) mobilized 6 Canadian scientists from Natural Resources Canada in the field of geospatial to provide technical assistance.
