Description 

Through this project, Canada provides a contribution to the Conflict-Related Sexual Violence Prevention Multi-Partner Trust Fund (CRSV-MPTF) that help create the implementation of the Framework of Cooperation signed between the Special Representative of the Secretary General on Sexual Violence in Conflict and the Government of Ukraine. It aims to enhance Ukrainian’s capacity to actively prevent and respond to conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV).

Expected results 

The expected results of this project include:(1) ensured holistic survivor-centred prevention and protection responses to CRSV are provided by international and national institutions and actors in Ukraine; (2) strengthened national and international institutions to prevent CRSV in Ukraine by addressing gender-based inequality and discrimination; (3) improved cooperation and information sharing between UN agencies reinforce coordination and improve system-wide response and implementation of UN Security Council Resolutions on CRSV; and (4) increased justice and accountability for CRSV in Ukraine through strengthened capacity and technical expertise of national and international institutions.

Results achieved 

Results achieved by the project through the support of the Government of Canada and other international donors at the end of the project (May 2025) include: (1) trained over 100 national prosecutors, police criminal investigators, security service officers and first instances judges to apply national and international standards and best practices for cases of the conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV); (2) enhanced capacity of the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine CRSV Specialized Unit's to deal with an increasing case load and analyse, systematize and search available information through identification and procurement of a digital evidence management system; (3) strengthened capacity of the War Crimes Unit in the National Police of Ukraine to conduct survivor-centred, and trauma-informed investigations; (4) provided analysis and support for developing a national protocol for clinical management of rape and intimate partner violence. This helped to address health system barriers in accessing quality essential healthcare and support services for CRSV survivors, emphasizing safety, confidentiality, and respect; and (5) completed mapping of civil society organizations and government stakeholders who provide services to survivors and victims to help shape technical assistance for these stakeholders and to create referral mechanisms.
