Project profile — Global biodiversity framework fund

This grant represents Canada’s support to the Global biodiversity framework fund (GBFF), agreed upon by governments at the 15th United Nations conference on biological diversity in Montreal in 2022. The fund aims to help developing countries achieve the 23 Kunming-Montreal global biodiversity framework targets by halting and reversing biodiversity loss globally by 2030. The Global environment facility administers the fund and supports developing countries with biodiversity-related planning, policy, governance, and financing approaches.

The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) developing countries supported to implement the 23 targets of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework by 2030; and (2) the Fund’s portfolio-level targets met. This means that funding is dedicated towards Small Island Developing States and Least Developed Countries, Indigenous-led or Indigenous-supporting actions, and international financial institutions that can help mobilize additional sources of funding.
