Description

This project aims to support the Haitian National Police in tackling sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) caused by gang violence in Haiti. This is done through a survivor-centered and gender-responsive approach.

Expected results

The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) improved decision-making, coordination, and intervention capacity of national institutions, service providers and international actors to tackle SGBV concerning gang violence; and (2) improved capacities of the Haitian National Police to document and investigate SGBV incidents and promote access to justice for survivors.

Results achieved

Result achieved as of December 2024 includes increased knowledge of 61 Haitian judges and magistrates (20 women and 41 men), and 41 police officers (29 women and 12 men) on investigating sexual violence, collecting and storing evidence appropriately and promptly. The project also helped to respond to survivors using a human rights and survivor-centred approach. As a result, 28 rape cases against women are adjudicated, resulting in 17 convictions.
