Description

This 18-month project aims to reduce conflict related violence experienced by civilians, particularly women and girls in Darfur, Sudan. Project activities include: (1) training civil society groups to document and share information on violence and human rights abuses through an early warning network; (2) training local peace committees on crisis response and conflict mitigation strategies; (3) training civil society members on trauma awareness, psychological first aid (PSA), coping mechanisms for high-stress or triggering situations, and basic mental health psychosocial support (MHPSS); (4) supporting civil society groups to carryout social cohesion sensitizations and activities; and (5) training civil society members on mediation and equipping peace committees with income generating activities (IGA) skills and economic resources to sustain peacebuilding efforts. The project’s direct beneficiaries include 96 Peace Committee members. The project targets 50% of members to be women and displaced populations (local and internal) of the 6 communities in North and South Darfur benefiting from improved security and information sharing through the early warning network.

Expected results

The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) increased capacity of civil society groups in North and South Darfur to share reports of violence and atrocities, and other human rights abuses. This includes implementing risk mitigation responses, particularly for risks targeting women and girls; and (2) improved ability of civil society groups in North and South Darfur to build and maintain social cohesion between different segments of the local population.
