Project profile — Support for Evidence-Based Decision-Making and Analyses of Humanitarian Crises – 2024 to 2027

May 2024 - This project aims to improve coordinated multi-sector needs assessments before, during, or after the humanitarian response to global humanitarian crises. This project is also known as the Assessment Capacities Project. With GAC’s support and other donors, this project provides evidence-based analysis for decision-making during humanitarian crises. Project activities include: (1) developing innovative needs assessment methodologies and tools to provide faster, more precise and cost-effective assessments of humanitarian crises; (2) training organizations and experts to build a roster of trained deployable assessment experts and expand the scale, reach and capacities for analysis through these newly formed partnerships and the strengthening of existing ones; and (3) strengthening the humanitarian narrative through the contribution to an evidence base for humanitarian action through the provision of quality analysis.

The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) improved informed, evidence-based, relevant humanitarian action by providing strong evidence and reporting; and (2) improved coordination of multi-sectoral assessments in crises and improved decision-making. The expected ultimate outcome is lives saved, suffering alleviated, and human dignity maintained in countries experiencing humanitarian crises or acute food insecurity.
