Description

This project aims to increase the effectiveness of peace, reconciliation, and dialogue processes in Ethiopia and Sub-Saharan Africa by providing adaptive and flexible support in the Somalia regional. This is done through the support of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC), Tigrayan civil society, and peace actors in Sub-Saharan Africa. Project activities include: (1) supporting Somali regional Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) to conduct 4 public hearings and to demonstrate responsiveness to gender specific or conflict related sexual violence raised by the victims; (2) providing emergency victims support to at least 240 victims and survivors (of which over 40% are women and girls); (3) facilitating peace collaboration meetings with Tigrayan civil society through semi-structured or informal interviews and focus group discussions; (4) conducting a gender-sensitive conflict analysis and identify potential entry points to advance peace processes; and (5) providing flexible funding to the partner's activities and sub-partners in Sub-Saharan contexts, with contexts to be determined in consultation with Global Affairs Canada.

Expected results

The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) strengthened the Somali region Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC), and enhanced its capacity and responsiveness to the needs of victims and survivors, including providing logistical and technical support; (2) supported Tigrayan civil society and peace actors by building consensus on key priorities and strategic approaches to the Tigray peace process, including gender-sensitive conflict analysis and facilitation of dialogues; and (3) enhanced peace initiatives in Sub-Saharan Africa by supporting local peace actors with targeted, gender-responsive interventions to address emerging opportunities and risks to peace processes.
