Description

November 2024 – The humanitarian situation in Syria has continued to deteriorate due to the ongoing conflict, resulting in displacement, severe protection risks and restricted humanitarian access. According to the United Nations, an estimated 15.3 million people need humanitarian assistance in Syria, with over 6 million internally displaced persons. With GAC’s support, Islamic Relief aims to reduce suffering , increase and maintain human dignity of 139,500 individuals, particularly women and girls, in internally displaced people (IDP) camps and towns in the Governorates of Idlib and Aleppo in Northwest Syria. Project activities include: (1) delivering essential medicines and medical supplies supplied to health centres; (2) raising awareness on sexual and reproductive health, optimal maternal nutrition, menstrual hygiene management, and protection; and (3) preparing confidential, culturally appropriate and gender sensitive case management rooms for IDP and host community (HC) women, men, girls and boys.

Expected results

The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) increased utilization of gender-responsive health services for IDPs and HCs, especially women and girls, in Idlib and Aleppo Governorates; and (2) enhanced provision of safe and dignified protection services to IDPs and HCs, particularly women and girls, in Aleppo and Idlib Governorates.
