Description

November 2024 - Political instability, conflict and natural disasters have left more than 25 million people across the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) in need of humanitarian assistance. Populations face insecurity, malnutrition, and limited access to clean water and adequate sanitation. Also, hunger, displacement and conflict increase the risk of sexual and gender-based violence, especially for the most vulnerable. With GAC’s support, the Mennonite Central Committee provides a multi-sectoral response targeting displaced and conflict-affected people in North Kivu, DRC. Project activities include: (1) providing multi-purpose cash transfers (2) distributing emergency non-food items and (3) providing protection services to mitigate the increased risk of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) for vulnerable women and girls.

Expected results

The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) increased capacity of beneficiary households to meet their immediate needs (including food, healthcare, non-food items, sanitation, etc.); and (2) increased use of protection services for forcibly displaced and conflict-affected women, men, boys and girls. The expected ultimate outcome is lives saved, suffering alleviated, and human dignity maintained in countries experiencing humanitarian crises or acute food insecurity.
