Project profile — Enhancing Forensic Capacity in the State of Palestine

This project aims to improve forensic science services in the State of Palestine so that courts and investigations can rely on accurate and trustworthy evidence. By strengthening laboratories, staff skills and systems, the project supports a justice system that is fair and works better for women, men and children. Project activities include: (1) upgrading forensic laboratories, equipment and databases to improve DNA, fingerprint, firearms and trace evidence analysis; (2) improving rules, procedures and quality control to ensure forensic work meets international standards; (3) training and mentoring forensic specialists across key disciplines; and (4) supporting police, prosecutors, judges and other justice actors to better understand and use forensic evidence and to work more effectively together.

The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) forensic laboratories that can more reliably collect and analyze evidence, including DNA, fingerprints and firearms, using modern tools and methods; (2) stronger management, quality control and oversight of forensic services, leading to more consistent and impartial results; and (3) better use of forensic evidence in investigations and court cases, supported by improved knowledge and cooperation among police, prosecutors, judges and other justice professionals.
