Description

The project expands the reach of an existing mobile clinic and supports the formation of ten new support groups in the communities of Siavonga and Kabwe in Zambia. The mobile clinic provides HIV Voluntary Counselling and Testing (VCT), antiretroviral treatment, HIV awareness messages and primary health care, HIV/AIDS community training and dialogue, and expanded home-based care. The ten new support groups (one group per ward in the two communities) provide basic physical care, palliative care, psycho-social support and counselling with a particular focus/concern for orphans and vulnerable children. Gender-sensitive HIV/AIDS awareness campaigns target the participation of men in training to conduct HIV/AIDS awareness and train-the-trainer programs. This is one of two parts of a project valued at $414,960. The first part has been completed.
