Description 

This project is part of CIDA's International Youth Internship Program (IYIP), funded by the Government of Canada's Youth Employment Strategy (YES). The IYIP contributes to the YES by providing a large spectrum of Canadian graduates with valuable international development work experience abroad.

Results achieved 

Results achieved as of April 2011 include: (i) a Coastal Livelihoods Assessment project was completed for nine countries in the Western Indian Ocean region; (ii) a recycling program was developed for the Caribbean Maritime Institute campus in Jamaica; (iii) in the Philippines, around 60 participants had enhanced the understanding of the role of women in community decision making; and (iv) the 19 participating interns all felt that they had increased their employability, had a greater ability to make employment-related choices, and increased their knowledge of international development issues.
