Description 

The project aims to address the health issues of vulnerable populations, especially those of women and children, living in the lower Delmas region of Port-au-Prince. It aims to do so by improving access to quality primary health care services. The project contributes to the reconstruction and the expansion of the Grace Children's Hospital.

Results achieved 

Results achieved as of the end of the project (November 2012) include: (i) providing a steady supply of essential primary health services to roughly 80,000 women, men, and children living in the region of Lower Delmas of Port-au-Prince; (ii) conducting 1,531 public awareness meetings; and 453 mobile health clinics to bring health service to vulnerable people; (iii) providing integrated health services to 3,439 pregnant women; (iv) ,400 births supervised by trained traditional birth attendants; (v) providing voluntary counseling and testing for HIV to 803 pregnant women, resulting in a reduction in rates of HIV transmission to their children; and (vi) registering 484 active tuberculosis patients and 544 HIV patients at Grace Children’s Hospital. These contributed to improving the quality of health services available to vulnerable women, men and children living in the lower Delmas region of Port-au-Prince, thereby improving their health.
