Description

This project aims to improve the educational attainment levels of Tibetan youth living in Nepal and India to help them access post-secondary education and improve gainful employment opportunities. Project activities include: (1) technical training, mentoring and pilot programs as well as small grants and scholarships targeting girls; and (2) to mitigate the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic through a mixture of technical support, coaching, provision of supplies and improved internet connection. Beneficiaries consist of 64 schools with a student enrollment of 15,155 students (7,800 boys and 7,355 girls). For the additional activities to mitigate the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the total reach will be 15,556 students, teachers, counsellors and parents.

Expected results

The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) an improved home and school environment, including through parental participation and other support for girls’ and boys’ academic pursuits; (2) increased adoption of effective gender-responsive teaching practices at target schools; and (3) improved school planning and management practices.

Results achieved

Results achieved as of April 2021 include: (1) trained 474 parents on positive parenting; (2) supported the enrollment of 217 students in new entrepreneurship programs and clubs; (3) trained 58 school leaders on leadership and school development planning; and (4) facilitated 4,405 students in accessing new career guidance and psychosocial counselling services.
